"But I don't want to go to football practice, Mom," said my 8-year old son.

Before I could even start into my "lecture" about sticking to our commitments, my 17- year old daughter jumped in with a story to save the day.

"I remember a time our youth group from church was going repelling.  I really didn't want to go, but Mom said I had to…" she told her little brother.  "I'm so glad mom made me go.  I learned something new, I met a new friend and had the best afternoon ever."  Before she could finish describing the afternoon, my other son jumped in with a story about a time he didn't want to go to piano lessons.  Their little brother soaked in every word then looked at me with eager eyes… "Do you have a story too, Mom?"

Soccer TalkIt just so happened I did.

Because I've learned
Story teaches.
Story entertains.
Story heals… and Story can get your family talking in positive ways you may have not thought possible.  At the dinner table, in the car, on an errand to pick up new basketball shoes, when someone doesn’t want to go to football practice; they are all great times for Story.

If your family is always telling stories – or never tells them, Cherish Bound's Story Style Profile will help you find ways to share more stories in your home and Get Your Family Talking.
